NO SIGNAL: Solo Exhibition by Ginger

4 October - 3 November 2024

Palm Springs, CA, October 4, 2024 –Musonium Gallery to open solo exhibition NO SIGNAL, showcasing new oil paintings by Ginger.

Musonium Gallery is pleased to present NO SIGNAL, a solo exhibition by Spanish pop surrealist, Ginger. In an already complex world, finding comfort and stability can be challenging, making it even harder to truly connect with the deeper aspects of our surroundings and our inner selves. We get lost in a maze of the mundane, trapped on a hamster wheel we do not even realize we are on. We look straight ahead, often ignoring everything else happening around us with little consideration for the richness and depth of the world we inhabit. Coincidentally overlooking the fragility of our earthly situation. That is, until we are forced to confront the true nature of reality. When mankind collectively encounters global challenges, we are reminded of our shared responsibility as citizens of this world. No matter where we come from, together we are capable of over coming even the toughest adversities in pursuit of a brighter future for everyone. It is through times like these our resilience is tested and the human spirit 's ability to find beauty, meaning, and hope even in the darkest moments becomes a beacon, representing the intricacies of the human experience.

In our modern day, we constantly face new challenges and rapid changes, especially given our digital age and the increasing reliance on technology for society to function. Much like how today's innovations are aimed at improving the ease of life but come with their fair share of consequences, mankind's multifaceted connection to both progress and the inevitability of obstacles is also affirmed. Always allowing room for improvement. As easy as the signal can be lost on a phone or television, human's can lose connection with each other and, consequently, with the world around us. This is the basis of a delicate yet intrinsic web that weaves society together today that Ginger aims to convey in NO SIGNALthrough her narrative oil paintings infused with symbolism and metaphor. The works in this exhibition offer a poignant and introspective perspective of the 2020s thus far, contemplating isolation, uncertainty, and a collective sense of loss. The profound impact global tragedies are capable of being felt in all corners of the world force us to pause and confront our vulnerabilities. Each painting captures the essence of our times, reflecting the myriad of emotions experienced through shared ordeals that ripple throughout society, reshaping it into a mirror of our past and a vision of our future.

In the painting titled Choose One, masked blue monochromatic figures peer over a wall with many curious doors, where a black rabbit with a burning house on its back carefully considers which door will open to the best opportunity, metaphorically alluding to fight or flight responses. In Ginger's painting Dream, a skeleton with a smiley face sticker on its chest and a human heart in its hand sits inside a turquoise house surrounded by a maze as it draws hearts on pieces of paper, symbolizing the difficult quest to find love and the yearning to be found and loved. In the painting titled Technical Difficulties, a crow is perched on top of a blue retro television with a static screen and the words “2020 technical difficulties please stand by” while a forest burns in the background, reminding us of the increase of frequent global climate related disasters. In Ginger's painting Ephemeral, a masked figure wears a skeleton onesie sat upon a balcony blowing wishes using a dandelion with pieces of paper taped to the wall with words exclaiming “everything will be taken away”, urging us to appreciate life today as what we have now might not be with us tomorrow. Through Ginger's recurring motif of the astrological symbol for Pluto in various pieces included in NO SIGNAL, the artist affirms that every end brings a new beginning, offering a chance to grow, renew, and experience rebirth. Signifying that death and destruction are as integral too life, as new horizons are inescapable regardless of the outcome.

About Ginger

Ginger is a self-taught Spanish artist in love with the singular and mysterious. Her work explores feelings and emotions represented mainly by female figures without facial identification, amulets, symbolic references and nonhuman animals that cohabit in an imaginary and enigmatic world more typical of dreams than the reality we know. These characters recreate situations, fears, desires and hopes that can only be deciphered by an imaginative vision capable of capturing the message hidden beneath the surface, all wrapped in a universe of magic and secrecy that allows her feelings to surface timidly without exposing them In its whole.

Her work contains many references to an inner world developed from a childhood linked to the stories and tales of authors of the XVIII and XIX century such as the brothers Grimm, Perrault or Hans Christian Andersen among others, whose stories full of intrigue, symbolism and allegories were her first contact to, what some years later, in her teenage years, would be an unconditional love for fiction and fantasy, both in literature and film, being this reflected on her more recent work with a generational wink to those born in the 70s and 80s, through vintage toys, and iconic objects from that era.

That imagery of her childhood and youth, together with a mysterious and captivating aesthetic are the tools through which the artist tells us her personal experiences, her interpretation of life, in occasions revealing vulnerability or nostalgia and always communicating emotions, through a visual narrative, which is the heart of her work.
